The Lemosho Route is a stunning 70 km (43 mi) trek up the western slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The standard 8-day itinerary is highly recommended for optimal acclimatization and summit success.
Day 1 Transfer from the hotel to Londorossi Gate (2250m) - Big Tree Camp (2780m)
After breakfast and a briefing (including a check of your equipment), we drive to Londorossi Gate, which is about 80 kilometers away. The journey takes about 2 hours and leads partly over bumpy slopes. After the formalities at the gate have been completed, the trail leads through lush rainforest where you can spot black and white colobus monkeys in the tree crowns. After a 2-3 hour hike, you will reach the Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa Camp) - your first night camp on Kilimanjaro.
Lunch; Dinner
Day 2 Big Tree Camp (2780m) - Shira Camp 1 (3500m)
After breakfast you will soon leave the dense rainforest, and pass through heathland, the landscape starts to become more barren and is marked by lobelias. It travels up to the mountain
ridge that leads to the Shira Plateau. You will be rewarded here with a great view of the Kibo and Mount Meru. You then cross some quiet streams and descend over the Shira Ridge (3600m) to the
night camp at Shira Camp 1.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 3 Shira Camp 1 (3500m) - Shira Camp 2 (3900m)
Today you leave the heathland as the path leads up through an open moorland landscape. Upon reaching the Shira Plateau, you can again enjoy the great view of the Kibo. At Shira Camp 2, where you will stay overnight, there is a warm lunch. Afterwards you can take a short excursion with your guide for better acclimatization.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 4 Shira Camp 2 (3900m) - Barranco Camp (3960m)
Today's stage contributes very well to good acclimatization. You will pass huge boulders on your way to the Lava Tower (4600m), which you will reach approximately at the "half-time" of today's trek. Afterwards it descends to the foot of the Kibo peak down into the Barranco valley to the camp. Enjoy the magnificent view of the glaciers and snowfields of the Kibo and the reddish shimmering Barranco Wall at sunset.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 5 Barranco Camp (3960m) - Karanga Camp (4035m)
Today's trek is somewhat shorter, so we can start a little later and enjoy the sun. First it travels through the Barranco Wall, where there is some light climbing where you must also use your hands to help. After you have reached the upper end, you can take a deep breath and once again enjoy the view of the Kibo. The next part of today‘s route will take you through small streams and the Karanga River to Karanga Camp where you will spend the night in your tent.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 6 Karanga Camp (4035m) - Barafu Camp (4640m)
Today you can start your day a bit more relaxed. During the gentle climb, you will have great views into the Karanga valley and soon you will also see the Rebmann Glacier. After crossing a last valley, the trail goes over the Lava Ridge and up steeply to your today's destination, the Barafu Camp. The view of the second highest peak of Kilimanjaro, the Mawenzi, is spectacular. After an early dinner, you should settle into your sleeping bag to catch a little sleep, as at midnight we go to the summit !
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 7 Barafu Camp (4640m) - Uhuru Peak (5895m) - Mweka Camp (3080m)
You will be awakened around 11pm, and after a hot coffee or tea and a small snack, you start with
your trek to the summit. The climb is exhausting and requires a lot of will power in the cold of the night. At about sunrise you will reach the crater rim of the Kibo at Stella Point. Backed by the rising sun, you will reach the Uhuru Peak in just over an hour from now. The great views compensate you for the strenuous ascent, enjoy them! After you have taken a few summit pictures, it will be time for the descent. After a short break at Barafu Camp, you continue your
trek to Mweka Camp, where it is time to sleep properly.
Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner
Day 8 Mweka Camp (3080m) - Mweka Gate(1630m) - Transfer to the hotel
After a last breakfast on the mountain you will walk for 2-3 hours through the rainforest to the Mweka Gate. Here you will have to say goodbye to your mountain team. On arrival at the hotel, a hot shower, a comfortable bed and clean clothes will await you. Later you will be visited by your guide, who will hand over your summit certificate and have a drink with you to celebrate your summit success.

RONGAI ROUTE 6 DAYS:
The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north, close to the Kenyan border. Though gaining popularity amongst climbers, this route still experiences low crowds. Rongai has a more gradual slope than the mountain’s other routes. It is the preferred route for those looking for an alternative to the popular Marangu route, for those who would like a more remote hike, and for those who are climbing during the rainy season (the north side receives less precipitation). Rongaiis a moderately difficult route, and is highly recommended, especially for those with less backpacking experience.
Although the scenery is not as varied as the western routes, Rongai makes up for this by passing through true wilderness areas for nearly the entire way. Descent is made via the Marangu route.
PROGRAM:
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. you will be met and transferred for overnight accommodation at Hotel(B&B). Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.

Departing from Moshi a 4-5 hour drive will take you through the coffee plantations and Village of Nale Muru to the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate. We will patiently wait for our permits to be issued while watching the hustle and bustle of operations as many crews prepare for the journey ahead Enjoy the beautiful wooded scenery, and windy trails while your guide tells you about the local flora and fauna and natural wildlife you are likely to see. Simbacamp sits near the first cave at the edge of the moorland zone with spectacular views of the plains of Kenya.
DAY 2: SIMBA CAMP – SECOND CAVE CAMP: 5.8KM/3.6MI | 5-6HRS | MOORLAND

The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rainforest to Shira Ridge, before crossing the Shira Plateau. The route then heads north and circles clockwise from Moir Hut to Buffalo Camp to School Hut, before summiting from the east. Descend is made via the Mweka route.

SHIRA ROUTE 6 DAYS:
The Shira Route is a little used trail that begins near Shira Ridge. It is nearly identical to the Lemosho route. In fact, Shira was the original route and Lemosho is the improved variation. Although Shira is a varied and beautiful route, it is less favorable than its successor due to the relatively high altitude of Shira’s starting point, which is accessed quickly by vehicle. It is possible that climbers will experience some altitude related symptoms on the first day while camping at 11,800 feet.
The route approaches Mount Kilimanjaro from the west, beginning with a long drive from Moshi to Shira Ridge. The vehicle bypasses the rain forest zone and the hiking trail begins on Shira Ridge. The Shira route crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route.
PROGRAM:
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport. You will be met and transferred for overnight accommodation at Hotel B&B. Your head guide will meet you for your briefing, gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.

Distance: 8km/5mi
Hiking Time: 4-5 hours
Habitat: Montane Forest
The drive from Moshi to the trailhead takes about 3 hours. We hike through the rain forest on a winding trail up a ridge. At lower elevations the trail can be muddy and slippery. Gaiters and trekking poles are a good idea here. We continue a short distance until we reach the Shira Camp. An overnight at Shira 2 Camp.
DAY 2: HIKE SHIRA 2 CAMP TO LAVA TOWER TO BARRANCO CAMP
Elevation: 3850m/12,600ft to 4000m/13,000ft
Distance: 10km/6mi
Walking Time: 5-6 hours

From the Shira Plateau we continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the South East towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (elev 4650m/15,250ft). Shortly after the tower we come to the second junction which goes to the Arrow Glacier. We now continue down to the Barranco Camp. Although you end the day around the same elevation as when you began, this day is very important for acclimatization and will help your body prepare for summit day. An overnight at Barranco Camp.
DAY 3: HIKE BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP
Elevation: 4000m/13,000ft to 4050m/13,250ft

Distance: 5km/3mi up / 13km/8mi down
Hiking Time: 5-7 hours up / 5-6 hours down
Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit
Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see. Faster hikers may view the sunrise from the summit.
From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. Once at Uhuru Peak you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa!
